i don't just mean looking for something to try on or browsing through a site on-line, but also the process of trying them on and walking around in them to see if they fit right.

i don't, for a number of reasons;

#1 i'm a size 9 & that's fairly big for women's feet.

#2 said feet are also "wide width" & many shoes in your basic store (wal-mart, for example) don't have shoes in wide width, so i have to go to a 9 1/2 or a 10. or if they do have "wide width" available, it's sometimes not quite wide enough & i have to go to "wider width."

#3 i have a high top part of the foot (i forget what that's called) which makes it hard sometimes to get a good fitting shoe.

#4 i have thick calves, so most boots are out.

I take a US 13 in OMFG wide with high insteps and comparatively narrow heels. I hate shoe shopping. My enjoyment of shoes is largely artistic appreciation because there are so few shoes that fit me, most of which are ugly, and all of them are uncomfortable and expensive. I love it when oxfords come back into style because I can raid the mens shoe department and actually get shoes that fit and are comfortable, sometimes.

Boots higher than a couple inches above the ankle bone are right out, they don't make boots for my calves even if they do manage to make a pair that might fit my feet.
