New Year, New Shoes?

Happy New Year All!

Did anyone else come out of the holiday season with new shoes? I bought a pair during the clearance event at John Lewis. While they aren't the highest narrowest heel ever, they are the highest and narrowest that I've ever owned...



I'm starting a desk job in two weeks time, so if nothing else I can wear them for sitting down. *g*

Yup, the majority of that sort of high shoe which I've seen in offices have been neatly lined up under the desks, no feet in them, and no real signs of wear. I think they may get taken out for serious meetings or something in many cases, but maybe not so much else. I hope they are fun to wear though for you--

I don't know if 'fun' is the right word for it, but there is certainly something satisfying in the aesthetics of shoes like these that makes up for the impracticality of them. They give my self-confidence a boost, and for me that is no small thing.

(It's only in the last two or three years that I've become someone who pays any attention to clothes/shoes etc. I used to be a bit scornful of anyone who invested a lot of mental energy in something so superficial. It's been a real shock for me to discover how powerfully mood-altering clothes can be.)

I know what you mean! I have always been more crunchy-granola, especially the last couple of decades. When I was young I wore makeup, but didn't get insane for the latest fashion or anything. However, this summer I spent a week with some of the older rockstars and their crowd, and holy crap, do people use botox and plastic surgery and spanx pants to stuff their fat into and hair dye and makeup and pretty much everything in the world that I never cared about. However, it became clear to me as a decent backup singer who looked in some of the still photos like a fatter-than-I-actually-even am frump, that I need to do a little of this and that before I get together with them again this year! I still will not dye my hair or get botox or any of that, and I even am getting rid of my boots because they are too high and hurt me after a day onstage, but yeah, the world wants things to appear a certain way and they don't want to see reality in some ways. Perhaps amusingly, one of my good friends is makeup lady for Bon Jovi, and she looks natural and a little plump and like a real person, and still does great in that business. *shrug* I think that it will help me to get a little slimmer, and the easy way for me to do that is to avoid the wheat and sugar that I have reactions too--or maybe buy those stupid spanx underpants! ahahaha!

That's a lovely classic shoe—it'd be at my upper limit, certainly. I look at the footwear on celebrity feet these days and clench my toes in horror! But you can slide it off your feet while you're sitting at your desk and be sharp and elegant when you have to get up!

I've always assumed that part of the criteria for being a celebrity was some secret ability to wear ridiculous shoes without pain.

This pair is so beautifully made and so elegant...I think the pleasure of looking down from my desk and seeing them on my feet makes up for the inconvenience they pose from the practical pov.
